must win game for England in the first of the ODI's

They had Australia 152-7 with only 9 overs remaining, but then conceded a 50 run 8th wicket partnership. 205-9 at the half way point. Have Australia wriggled off the hook?

It is very tight - Eng 5/89 off 23.3 overs. Need to score at 4.34 rpo to win - doesn't sound like much, but...

Sciver definitely the key.

Too bad. Seemed they'd restricted Australia to a gettable total but the lower order defiance and some tricky dusk batting conditions put it out of reach.

Well, I thought England's women were going to do better than the men, but with 1 game to go it's 3-0 Australia, with two no-results and one rain affected draw, and batting collapses galore for England.

It's not as though England have bad players - Beaumont, Sciver, Knight, Wyatt are all proven batting performers but they can't seem to keep Australia out.

Just goes to show Australia really are on another level in the women's game, especially in their home conditions. As reflected in the rankings - Australia's womens ODI team ranked a frankly insane 162 with South Africa and England next on 121 and 119 respectively. When you consider that the average score for a men's ODI no 1 team is around the low 120s, that England's world cup winners achieved a high rating of 135 after about 18 months without a series loss, and the highest ever ODI rating for men was 140 for Ponting's all-conquering 2003-2007 Aussie all time great team (and backward historical projection 141 for the West Indies of the 80s), it goes to show just how ridiculously good Australia's women are.

Ought to put a buck or two on them for the world cup...
