South Africa win by 10 runs. They lost only one match in the group, and they're going home.

They played better than I expected. I think they will be a team to watch next year.

Who was it saying England might peak too early?

And Roy out too...

Glad we've made the semis, but that was the bare minimum that should be expected of this team. Anything can happen now.

Watching this hattrick unfold, the overwhelming feeling was just how much a test hattrick is a very notable achievement, and a T20 hattrick is just something that happens.

All three wickets were shots out in the deep, with the previous wicket having no impact on the actions of the incoming batter. Nor on field placement, etc. Imagine this attitude filtering through to test cricket!?

On top of that, it was to a bowler who had been (unusually) carted all afternoon.
Maybe

Dose of reality for England : they aren't invincible.

In truth this was not unexpected. You go into a game knowing as long as you don't get beaten by over 100 you are safely qualified and it is a little difficult to have quite the same intensity as a team fighting for its place... Human nature , try as you might that last few % probably isn't there. And at this level , a slight lapse in focus can destroy you.

Under par in all areas. Bizarre fielding errors even : three sets of overthrows in two overs ?!. Bowling underwhelming (for all we should credit SA for some fine innovative batting) and the batting couldn't get the job done despite the usual conditions assisting the chasing team...but even as they donated the hat trick to Rabada I had the sense no-one really cared too much. Bad day : good time to have it.

Losing Roy is a blow , no question. But they have the strength in depth to cover him ; either bring in Billings or an extra pace bowler like Willey. Shouldn't derail their campaign. Lack of a second death bowler to assist Jordan is probably more of a concern - and not much they can do about that. Hopefully Wood will be a lot better with a game under his belt.

Like Sussex , I still fancy their chances. But in this most unpredictable format any of the teams that make the knockouts will have a fair chance of coming away with the cup. At least we have seen a couple of teams successfully defend totals at night lately so hopefully the finals won't all be decided by the toss...
