ICC Women's T20 World Cup Europe Region Qualifier 2021

God knows I love a short lived round Robin tournament and we have this running over the long weekend. Free to watch on the ICC website.

Initially supposed to comprise 6 teams, Turkey dropped out, meaning that the big hitting Ireland, Netherlands and Scotland will face off against just France and Germany to vie for qualifocation for next year's World Cup.

Ireland's game against Germany this morning was unusual to say the least. After a poor bowling performance was met with a dominant Irish batting, Germany went on to bat as if they didn't know what format they were playing.

Gaby Lewis scored 105* to take Ireland to 196-2. Germany then batted turgidly. They were 10-1 after the poweplay and 16-1 after 10 overs. They ended the game at 32-3 which was....odd.

Despite the Netherlands playing twice today, Ireland top the table and Gabby Lewis tops the run scoring table. The Netherlands lost to Scotland but beat France which sees them in second. Their bowler Frederique Overdijk registered the frankly unbelievable score of 7-3 against France and naturally leads the wicket taking. Her figures were a world record for T20 Cricket.

The gulf in class between the sides in this tournament is throwing up some super freaky bowling figures. Irish veteran Eimear Richardson got the unlikely figures of 2.1-2-0-2 today as France were humiliated to 24 all out. France's highest scorer was two players who scored 3 with 5 players registering a duck. Ireland chased the total down in just 2.4 overs.

Scotland beat Ireland on Saturday to top the table with 3 wins from 2 with Ireland in second place. France are winless.

Despite only playing two games (compared to other batters who have played 3 or 4) Gaby Lewis' mammoth score of 105 vs Germany coupled with just 8 vs Scotland still manages to see her top the run scoring. Similarly, Frederique Overdijk's 7 wicket haul in the first game plus 1 wicket against Germany sees her head up the wicket-taking column.

Scotland progress to the World Qualifiers while Ireland play the Netherlands tomorrow with the winner of that joining them.

Scotland completed their clean sweep of the tournament with a win over France. France were, again, all out for 24 but put up slightly more of a fight with the ball. Their three wickets in the chase were more than they mustered in the rest of the tournament combined. Megan McColl finished the tournament with a fivefer.

Ireland outclassed the Netherlands in their final game to seize second spot. They didn't have it easy with regular wickets falling and Netherlands showed the depth in their bowling with Eva Lynch chipping in with a three-fer. The Dutch batting lacked courage though and they managed only 87 in reply - 24 runs short of their total.

Gaby Lewis and Frederique Overdijk remained highest run scorers and wicket takers respectively.
