Officially to benefit viewers in India, but not sure a start time of 3pm compared to 3.30 is all that different.

Maybe a cheeky attempt to bring the extra dew in play against a batting line up that struggle more to swing? Its the reason English tests never usually start till 11am, when they start earlier eslewhere.

I guess that's the difference between the final session being 8-10.30 and 8.30-11pm in India, which probably does have a fair impact on viewing figures.

I imagine Broad would have been rested before now under previous management.

My jaw dropped at the number of overs bowled before I noticed the early start.

ah, that would explain it

somebody said that Matty Potts has changed from 82 to 35, which is his Durham shirt number. Does he now feel more confident about his place in the side?

Looks like a bat first pitch, but England presumably had an eye on the overheads.

Kohl v Anderson set to resume after lunch.

Potts nearly gets kohli chopping on. Sounded uncomfortably close

Now he has the wicket that the slips dropped earlier

India having the same sort of start as NZ. Now have to see if they too can add 200 for the sixth wicket.

Added fifty so far...

Pant v Leach producing some quick runs : maybe worth it though as the pace men have already done a lot of work and if he can induce an error...

Run rate close to 4 so this appears to be a continuation of the "action cricket" theme for this year :)

I think Pant tucked into Leach last time, but Jack pulled it back a bit eventually.

India starting brightly after tea...boundaries are coming fairly freely. Couple of times the ball has nearly sneaked through ; but anything in their preferred range they've hit sweetly.

186/5 so the revival continues...

I didn't realise that Mitchell and Blundell were playing for India
