Those tweets made by Robinson were racist and sexist. He's right to apologise for them.

The fact this wasn't pointed out to him years ago shows how institutionalised this racism and sexism is.

So disappointed by this. Stupid comments from Robbo, being young is no excuse. Won't be able to look at him with the same respect anymore....

But in seriousness, Yorkshire never detailed what he was sacked for. Maybe someone seen these a few years back and it's part of the reason he was dismissed. Certainly vindicates Yorkshire's decision if he was acting and talking like this at the time.

Asking myself the same question. Awful stuff, but how did no-one at the ECB, Sussex, or even one of his mates, pick this up? One assumes they were deleted and someone did some digging. If they were still there on his twitter feed, beggars belief how he wasn't hauled up for it much earlier.

He's apologised, but now what? Terrible look for the game on the same day the players are supposed to be united in combating discrimination in cricket.

A cricketer spends his career among people from around the world and of many diverse cultures. It's surprising that someone would think expressing racist (setting aside sexist) views wouldn't lead to a reckoning. Even if he hadn't been told they would by the coaching set up.

I sometimes wonder whether there are people out there who sit on this stuff for years, just in case the person 'makes it'. I do wonder as well whether journalists hang onto this stuff on the off chance of it becoming a much bigger story a few years down the line

Muslims are bombers, women needing to learn class, East Asian jokes about slant eyes, girls who play computer games put out more..... It requires no interpretation to see what these are about

As a Sussex fan I would certainly like an explanation as to what the club knew and when. The Independent have an article saying the last of these tweets landed in late 2013, which is after he signed a contract at Yorkshire. He was sacked after without any specific reason being given, and it does feel like this could be the reason, or at least part of it.

I dont think Sussex would trawl SM of players looking for this, and even if they did it would probably have been deleted..... but the fact we ended up with Dizzy at the club who almost certainly would have known had Yorkshire themselves been aware, then we have no excuse. These should have been uncovered at the time.

I have seen the word "leak" used in several articles. Considering the "sacked to hero" articles everywhere, it wouldnt surprise me if someone aware of his behaviour was tired by all these articles and leaked this to the press.

Obviously what happens now is anyone's guess. Harrison promised a disciplinary investigation into it, and its hard to see how the player escapes punishment. I'd imagine purely on a save face measure from the ECB, he cant be seen to get away with it, so he will by a bare minimum lose his place in the side. And then what? Do England continued with a tarnished brand of a player yet to establish himself at international level, or cut ties.

Very sad. The boy has so much talent, but he's given everyone no other option. If this is his last game in an England shirt then he has only himself to blame. Atm I could think of nothing better than giving the lad a stiff slap round the head. Let our proud club down.

Its not a good look at all for the player and the ECB. But i think the player must be given the chance at redemption. How this all slipped through the cracks to suddenly appear on his first day of test cricket just shows that the ECB is still as useless as ever.

Ollies actions from now will dictate the type of person he becomes. The ECB have swept many things under the carpet but they need to deal with this head on.

One word of advice to anyone young out there. Dont join SM.

The official reason for his release from Yorkshire was his "unprofessional atttitude"- he was regularly travelling home to Kent to socialise with friends and returning late and/or not in a fit state to train.
It seems probable that the tweets have emerged as a result of the racism enquiry and the leek timed to have maximum effect.

Some consequences must be in order. But I don't think he should have his England career ended because of it. If he tweeted it today it would be different, but this was years ago, so I agree with yuppie he should be given a chance at redemption, to show the apology is genuine and he's a better person now.

Obviously the counties and the ECB need to be doing more on educating their players. Though a certain amount of racism and sexism is just there in our culture. The PM has said similar things about about Muslims and other races and nationalities. These attitudes are hardly marginal. The issue is a deep one. I don't think he should lose his potential career, though some reparation is necessary.
