I think Batting first has been a huge advantage here.

Still good to see Smith show some more in the ODIS. Batting pitches but his limited overs form has never got close to his test form. Perhaps we are starting to see that be rectified now.

9 matches this year, average 70 with a SR over a 100. Very different stats to his career stats.

Win the toss, bat first, score 300+, win the match. Three times.

Too early to call this one though. India were in a similar position at halfway.

though Australia was in a position to win the match near the end. That wasn't the case with the first two. Aus were hot favourites up to the fall of Maxwell.

A good match. Well done India, a great partnership between Pandya and Jedaja was the difference.

Why the hell does Jadeja get a concussion sub? He pulled a hamstring

Sub takes a couple of wickets too.

That leaves a pretty bad taste, frankly.

Odd game. Australia we're cruising then just stopped timing it and the runs dried up.

Atrocious over rate too. Game's taken nearly four hours.

Bit slow by Lord D'Arcy. Maybe cost the game.

I read that there was a bit of a hoohah going on about it, although it seemed more to do with the like for like part rather than the nature of the injury. There had been talk of a bouncer, so I assumed Jadeja had worn one while he was batting

either way, I doubt that Australia will be impressed. The sub seems to have come on and changed the game. POM too!

Got banged on the head as well as injuring his hammy... Worked out well for him and his team :)

If the match ref OK'd it I guess it is all legit. But I am not surprised the Aussies aren't too happy. I have never really liked the concussion sub rule , mainly because of this appearance of abuse ; but also because it protects a team against only one type of accident.

Fast bowler twists an ankle...tough luck. You just get a twelfth man to field and have to make up his overs with a part timer. Top order batsman gets a knock on the head : in comes another good bat to take up his innings so you basically aren't seriously disadvantaged.

I get the health and safety thing but it seems a bit unequal.

From what I can tell, Jadeja was in the groove with the bat and the hammy wasn't interfering with that, but would probably have prevented him from bowling. He carried on thumping fours to the boundary, seemingly unperturbed by the blow to the head, with no one on the field feeling it necessary to get a concussion check, so I suppose that Australia may feel that a diagnosis during the break had the potential to be a bit suss. If Jadeja had taken that blow to the head and then in the second innings pulled his hammy on the run up to the first ball of his first over, India would have had to find 4 overs from somewhere.

that being said, if a doctor diagnoses a suspected concussion injury then it has to be taken on trust. I suppose it serves to add more fuel to the whole substitute debate.

That's it exactly. Plus I was there, and I didn't see him cop a blow to the head. At all. There was never any delivery where he was obviously hit, let alone went down.Even if he did, it didn't stop he m clobbering boundaries. Then he can't bowl, and during the break a concussion magically emerges from a non existent hit?

Chahal couldn't have batted like that, but is a better bowler, so the like for like is extremely suss, as is the injury itself.

I understand the ref and doctor gave it the ok, but it all seems terribly convenient.

maybe the BBL substitution rule is actually a natural evolution rather than a bit of theatre
