To be fair Ireland have bowled right in the slot and made the ball move. And Murtagh knows how to bowl at Lord's. But England should have kept them out.

England almost invariably bowl the wrong length at Lord's - too short. Let's see if they keep that up.

Curran could quite easily resist here. Less confident about Mo though.

Maybe a good toss to lose.

I cant really understand why Root didnt bowl. The grass wont stay live in this heat for long, and when it dies it can have a habit of numbing a pitch down, but Root seemed to think that the pitch is dry and will break up.

If Ireland review this Root is dead

At the start one of the Irish commentators suggested Ireland were ok with losing the toss because they were unsure what to do.
Sounded as if England batted because the hot weather would take it out on the bowlers...not if they're only out there for one session.
Another wicket for Murtagh just now. 7 down

Five-fer for Irish-Tim. Six wickets down for 7 runs for England.

Just as well Denly got a few.

I hope none of the bowlers decided to go to the toilet and a long shower to cool off, because at this rate they will get timed out if they arent padded up already.

5-11 for Murtagh (Test average 13.5) and Broad is batting at 12.20. Impossible.

If you get blown away by amazing bowling then fair play, but not a single batsman has been beaten here by anything unplayable. We are picking opening bats who have no footwork, and middle order bats who play with the spirit of a British Cavalry Squadron from 1815 (wantonly reckless for those less in tune with history). ALi is coming in at 6, and he averages under 15 since the start of 2018....

Why is our number 6 playing in this game when we have another spinner and 5 bloody bowlers below him? Why is Ali there.
