Head nearly out first ball. That one flew off a length. Not going to see large totals on this deck, me thinks

There's been some variable bounce and carry out there already, and a hint of reverse. Obviously it's hard to know until both sides have batted, but a 100 opening partnership looks pretty good. I reckon 350 will be pretty competitive with India batting last. It is quicker and bouncier than Adelaide, for sure.

Harris played well. And it was a blinder from Kohli to get rid of Handscomb. The Indian bowlers haven't been as penetrative as they might have been - bowled too short, if anything.

India improved as the day went on. Which is good, otherwise the game might be moving out of their reach already, if they continued like the first session.

Disappointing to see Head not value his wicket enough with only 3 overs before the new ball. He had an obvious responsibility to be there and take the brunt of the new ball, not leave it to the likes of Cummins or Starc. It was easy to see that he was getting looser the couple of overs before his dismissal.

Still, 6/277 on day one on a slightly dodgy deck is a good day's return for Aus. They will be hoping that the last four wickets can take them past 350 in the morning. Paine and Cummins did well to bat through the last 13 or so overs.

If they push to 350-400 they are firmly in front. The match reports and the small part I watched with my breakfast indicate it's going to be horrible to bat on day 3-5

If Aussies make 400 then they will be favorites. However, i think this wicket too is sporting one for both batsmen and bowlers.

From what i have watched this morning, this could be a tough pitch to bat last on. Australian quicks would also prefer this pitch to Adelaide.

India will need to bat really well tomorrow and will be hoping to get in before Lunch. Australias tail is long, but they have no recognised batsman left.

Wouldn't say it's a long tail they can all bat...Starc has test runs, Cummins can make runs, Lyon can hang around and score runs..... then there's Hazelwood....

I think you are going to need a 50+ first innings lead to have a chance batting last

I think bfp has it right - though it might be my cautious bias that thinks 320 and over has Aus in command.

The first session, Adi, was mainly down to poor bowling from the India bowlers (Shami aside, he was good) and good batting from Harris. Finch was v scratchy and fortunate once or twice not to get out. Second session, Bumrah refound form.

Yes, I'm inclined to agree with bfp too.

Hard to see this one going five days.

Was very impressed with Harris

Looks to have a solid technique both when defending and attacking

He looked a bit reminiscent of a Chris Rogers or Langer himself

Now Tim Paine has made 50 runs partnership with Pat Cummins even though this wicket is offering lot of help to pacers. One hour into the days play and this session is going Aussies way unless we fold the tail in next hour

Both Pat and Tim Paine are out within 3 balls. Finally Indian bowlers managed to strike after drinks.

Australia 310/8 in 105.2 overs.
