293 all out. Not great, but probably competitive on what by all accounts is a tricky surface, and certainly a good recovery from 21/3 and 106/5. Yet again, the strength of England's lower order saves some embarrassment. Think what sort of scores we'd be posting if we actually had a decent top order.

England give the second over to the offspin of Batty against the left handed openers. Definitely worth a punt, I think.

I believe that on a pitch with significant turn an off spin bowler should bowl around the wicket to right hand batsmen as this makes the sweep shot and leg side play more risky and brings both edges of the bat into play. Moeen is always slow to change from over the wicket.

Good to see Tamim showing some maturity this innings. He has talent, but hes thrown it away alot with his one approach slog style.

Not sure why Moeen is not in the attack. England look a bowler heavy here, Cook seems to be rotating for the sake of it.

And apart from the new ball period when there was just a hint more bite and bounce, Gareth Batty hasnt looked like causing any trouble whatsoever. God he will struggle against Indias batsman if hes there.

Cook should maybe learn a lesson from that session. Batty is just being milked, the other two spinners are going to throw more buffet balls in, but they are also looking the most capable of making things happen. When Ali lands it right he gets the ball in those classic off spin areas to attack.

Id probably be shelving Batty.... Rashid comes back on with Ali, and chances come.
