Now it's just a case of who bats at 6 - Bairstow (which he should be) or Ali (Selectors wimping out).

Makes sense.

You're right. Alistair Cook says Woakes will play tomorrow and bat at 8.

He probably read my post ;-)

For some reason I thought they were playing today - which makes the decision to remove Woakes and Ball from their county games even worse.

I'm rather with Arthur on that - Durham's not in Australia for goodness sake!

Finish Monday evening and don't play until Friday morning - that's pathetic.

Good preview Arthur.

The weather looks set to be as tough for the tourists as it was in Leeds - cloudy skys, drizzle and cool temperatures. No doubt the ball will swing as well. I feel sorry for Sri Lanka being forced to play in these conditions. No doubt England will be forced to play in India on rank turners in dustbowls in 35 degree temperatures and have the same difficulty with the conditions. One does have to wonder in the long run if taking home advantage this far is good for the game. It's not exactly exciting to see touring sides thumped because the conditions were so alien.

On the other hand, if we had proper length tours with a decent amount of warm-up time and some FC games before the test match, it might help.

Cricinfo's reporting that Bairstow will bat 6, Moeen 7, Woakes 8. Good call.

Cloudy at present. Not bad enough for light to be an issue so should be a prompt start.

Durham CCC will be hoping the opposite happens...bat first, take two and a half days building up a big score then taking a couple of days to bowl them out twice.

Cook needs twenty for 10000 runs. Probably get his face on a banknote.

Cricinfo suggests Siriwardana might be in for Thirimanne.

And says a local described the weather as 'minging'.

Sri Lankans say the weather is very cold.

I'm going to spend the day on rivets.com to avoid this.

Actually, I'm going to work in half an hour.
