For a few years, they prepared tracks with grass and it used to get cracked up as well. From what I hear, this time around, it might turn out to be one of those decks that we used to see in the 1990s. Good for batting early on and possibly is going to turn a bit by day 4 and 5.

Anderson returns for Woakes.

Rabada, Morris and de Kock come in. Steyn, Duminy and Abbott out.

Probably a good toss to win.

You always want to bat first at CT. Good toss to win.

Looking good for batting. An umpire's call on an lbw shout off Cook, and not much else.

Might be worth giving the spinner a couple of overs to Cook.

Superb catch by Morris. I really thought Cook was heading for a big hundred.

Bars empty as Compo comes out to bat.

The spinner is going to have to do lots of work on this pitch

If we can play him well that will cause amla problems

Looks a bare pitch, and it's scorching hot. A bit surprising the spinner hasn't been on, if only for a look. And he'll have to bowl until they get reverse too. Presume reverse will be a big factor with the ground being so dry.

Given Hales' press they'll be disappointed not to have picked him up.
