I wondered who would take over from MitchJ. He seems the obvious choice.

gotta remember that it is (at least down here) still Movember - or, as the Yanks have strangely decided to call it, No Shave November.

Movember is a pretty big thing down here - so much so that I spend the other 11 months practicing.

Biggest success of the day night test so far is that the night session hasn't done anything unordinary been a success so far.

but like I said yesterday biggest test will be the 10-20th version where the hype dies down.

But, have they done anything to convince you that they are a BAD idea - or have you come in with preconceptions?

It hasn't been disasterous. Two low score innings so far but I haven't seen enough of the match to judge whether that is down to the conditions or just a combination of good bowling/bad batting.

I will obviously be interested to hear what the players themselves say after the game. They are, after all, the ones who have to deal with this.

true but it hasn't been over the top where batting is impossible to bat on.
someone made a good point just flip what happens in england where the first hour goes to the bowlers in Day night test the last hour goes to the bowler.
Think it is more to do with the lights, the ball always does more when their no due at night.
Chasing under lights in Aus/SA is very tricky.
Eng/Asia not too bad because of Due.

Also not sure if it the light or not the ball still been moving and swinging without the lights might be the ball.
Anyway the pink ball is been far better than the shite red kookabura.
only a matter of time before Dukes control world balls especially with Kookabura being crap lately and surprisingly SG ball not lasting well lately either.

as bfp says, it seems that it is more difficult to bat under the lights - but this may well be a matter of adjusting to this and/or the conditions. I would not say that it is down to the conditions, but a combination of the conditions, good bowling and poor shot choices.

I will obviously be interested to hear what the players themselves say after the game. They are, after all, the ones who have to deal with this.
That they are. It is, however, also the dollars (pounds, rupee, etc) that is paying their salaries - both sides need to be considered.

My view (fairly obviously, I suppose) is positive about the d/n test as well as the pink ball. It seems to stand up well to to rigors of the game as well as being nicely visible to batsman and spectator. Fielder may be a different matter, will have to wait on a group verdict on this.

Didn't Div 2 of the CC use the pink ball for a season as an experiment. Does anyone know how that went.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

no they only used reds, the MCC vs champions uses the pink ball though and pakistan first class season 3-4 years was played in orange and pink balls but players didn't like it.

Yes it was an experiment with a Tiflex ball which was phased out.

Looks to me that the batsmen have gotten to comfortable with the flat Gabba and Waca pitches. Grinding out an innings is starting to be a lost art.

Back in 2012, unnoticed by the rest of the world, the Caribbean regional four-day FC competition featured a handful of day/night matches, including this one:

I believe they used the pink ball, but I can't be sure....

Edit: yes, pink balls were used, way back in 2010:

Yet another test match that is likely to be over in three days. I feel that this is more common than ever. Would love to dig out any statistics to prove me right/wrong.

Batsmen can only attack they cant defend any more

So on flat pitches they rack them up in no time

On a pitch with any kind of assistance to the bowlers and they struggle to make 250+
