But, no, they won't pick that side.

Not sure he'd get picked just for that. Mo and Stokes could be in just for batting, and Willey as a hitter at seven.

Wasn't he batting at 6 in the test side before his injury?

There are seven proper bowling options in that team, so they could fit another batter in.

Just for his debut Test two years ago. He was down at eight afterwards.

Adding Root at 3/4 and leaving out one of the bowlers would further strengthen the team.

That's quite the strong tail. Cummins has been known to wield the willow quite enthusiastically and he got an 82 n.o. The other day int he warmup match, to save Australia from embarrassment.

That was a reply to Dan about getting Burns in. Root'll come in for Taylor, I'd guess, unless JT makes himself undroppable. After a long time of having no friends, someone must like James Taylor now, as he's been picked ahead of Bairstow.

Slightly surprised at no Bairstow given his fine last match against NZ . But I think they want to have a good look at Billings , and perhaps would prefer Bairstow to go back to red ball cricket with bat and gloves in preparation for UAE.

Sensible enough to rest Root. He is a very fit young fellow but even so I seem to recall having the physio out to him at some point batting at TB : wear and tear can set off niggles - quite apart from the mental strain.
Anyway it leaves the stage clear for Taylor to stake a claim.

Imagine the quicks will be rotated.

Burns will open with Warner, I would think. He's also a candidate to open with Warner in Tests.

Straight swap for Finch I'd think. Can't see us opening with Twatto. Not a long term option. Won't be there for the next WC or even CT. I suppose Agar or Marsh come in for Faulkner and Pattinson/Cummins as straight swaps for MJ/Hazlewood. I'm not really sure this side is much weaker than the one that won the WC. Amongst the guys who are missing, only Faulkner is irreplaceable. MJ and Hazlewood will be missed but we have good replacements, much better than say NZ had when they had to replace Boult. Bailey for Clarke is arguably an upgrade. And Burns for Finch is hardly a downgrade either. The major difference is that this series is in England, so I expect it to be close than the ODIs in Australia between these two teams but I reckon Australia should win.

In ODIs, yes. Not sure he has the technique to open in Tests especially with Warner at the other end. I'd like a good, old fashioned opener in the Rogers mould. Bancroft was the 3rd highest run scorer in the Shield last season and more importantly, scored a big hundred (150 out of a team total of 360 odd) on a slow, low, typical subcontinental pitch (our major nemesis) at Chennai against a decent India A spin attack comprising Pragyan Ojha. He'd be my man. Burns is a 4/5 at best for me in the Test side.
