good article does make all the claims of England being professional and the gap between them and the rest of women cricket nations increasing.

was gonna post about this as well

quite an interesting article and the sort of criticism around central contracts and perceived favouritism that I very much doubt you would ever see directed towards the mens setup

been a few discussions over the years whether guys on central contracts were given a lot more rope by selectors when out of form than other fringe players , of course there is the argument that having earned the central contract in the first place means they deserve that "extra rope"

Sounds like sour grapes from the Middlesex captain, for one Jenny Gunn wasn't even in the England ODI squad.

Unlike their male counterparts, the female players can not fall back on a county contract in the event of losing a central contract. Professionalism in women's cricket is really orientated towards full time training, conditioning and preparation, as opposed to actual match environment. Only way the girls can get better is by playing cricket against professionals rather than amateurs.

Next year's franchise tournament should improve the standard of domestic cricket. A lot of the England players also play in Australia for tournaments like the Big Bash.

I opened Cricinfo and saw the score (Aus 122, Eng 62) - "yes! They've won the Ashes" I thought.
