And who do you suggest comes in for him, if the leading run scorer in the LVCC last season isn't good enough?

I think mitch 3 will be dangerous on this pitch.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Starc didn't manage to bring the ball back into the left handers, bowling so wide there wasn't that much danger. Marsh, or anyone who is willing to make the batsmen play ball after ball will get wickets.

Last year. A year is a long time in sport. Lyth should have got a go toward the end of last summer. Personally Stoneman or Compton.
Anything can happen with a round ball.

Coz we're going up, and we'll win the cup, for Sussex by the Sea!

I have no problem with openers getting out early against a new ball and fresh bowlers

I'm more worried by the way Lyth is getting out than the low scores

He is playing bad shots not getting good balls

Indeed, I agree with the point. I dont mind a batsman getting out in fierce conditions, but Lyth doesnt seem to have much stomach for fighting for his wicket. Got a few balls he could have edged, and then flashed at a ball that he would have left over and over again in CC. Been the same in most of his innings.

Well he deserved a chance with his form, but you can only rate what you see when you see it, and so far he is failing on all levels... technically, shot selection, mentality, mindset.... blank/blank/blank/blank.

I will say again though, I would have never have dropped Compton or Robson. While Compton wasnt scoring that many, what he did do was see off the new ball. In India he showed tremendous patience to get starts, and that allowed Cook and KP to make runs after him.

We dont need a player to average 55 to be useful, just someone with stickability to allow the 3 and 4 to come in against older balls and more tired bowlers.

Other than that, the name that sticks out for me (or two) is Taylor, who keeps doing his job and needs to be in the team for me (with Root opening) or Borthwick, simply because in tough batting conditions in Durham where bowlers thrive and batsman struggle, his runs seem to mean a lot more than others.

Both of these elevate Root to opener.... for me he has to step up
