Think they have looked at the weather report and know that they have to force the game to get a result from the series.

I am liking the positive nature of it. They will possibly end the day with 300 runs on the board with many overs lost due to rain. Good positive cricket knowing they need a result

Their quick scoring has come at a price. 8 down and not even 300 on the board yet.

The spectators have had an entertaining day after all.

Indeed, though they need to take 20 wickets to draw the series. If the weather report is true, they will struggle to get all the overs in this test.

Yes I can see why they want quick runs. Sh.t or bust really.

Good choice by Cook to bowl first then, makes it easier to hang on for the draw if required :dunno

Yep,NZ are not going to loose wondering.

England are just going to bat slowly tomorrow, no need to rush. All up to NZ to make things happen.

I'd say honours even after day 1.

Watching the highlights, could have been so much better for England.

Looks tough batting, so if conditions continue, maybe 300 is a good score?

Considering they were 2-2 having been put in, I'd say it was NZ's day - nearly 300 on the board on a truncated day.
NZ have 3 seamers who might like these conditions - I wonder if 30-4 at Lords influenced Cook's decision to bowl.
If the weather doesn't interfere too much it could be a cracking game.

Swinging the bat was always going to get a wicket.
