I see the UAE have just axed their skipper.

I know that Ireland are bigging their chances up, but they'll struggle to get out of that group (assuming that top 4 qualify) unless one the bigger boys have a shocker against them. Always possible. They'll wish they were in England's group, because I'd give them a 50/50 chance against us

I suppose they'll be looking to pick off the West Indies.

depends how many spinners that Zim pack into the side, and how good a game Ed Joyce has.

I'm glad that Joycey is back in the Ireland side. He is exactly the kind of player that they need to progress. It's ridiculous that England could take him, drop and leave him (and Ireland) in limbo for a few years.

So have WI hidden Narine for the past few months and then named him in the squad when they think the ICC will let it go, wanting an uncontroversial competition?

Zimbabwe have only brought 1 specialist spinner this time.

Yep. Very much seems like it tbh. Hard to think it could be any other reason.

I doubt it...Narine's rehab has been carried out with absolutely no input from the WICB:

http://www.windiesfans.com/index.php?op ... &Itemid=50

That tells me it's just between Narine and Kolkata. So, Narine himself decides when he comes back, and because the World Cup pays players more than any other tournament, well....

And given how desperate the WICB is after cutting off its nose to spite its face (Big Bravo)....

That's rubbish.

Big Bravo has been a utter waste since the end of February 2014.

http://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Playe ... eason.html

http://www.howstat.com/cricket/Statisti ... &Year=2014

Dwayne Bravo has averaged about 12.5 runs over the last 10 months of ODI cricket in 8 matches. His last score over 27 was on February 28, 2014 when he made 87* against England. Since then against England, Bangladesh (!) and India he has not made 30 runs in an innings and for the Bangladesh series his average was 7 (that's right 7.00) and for India it was 9 (yep, 9.00).

If he had been picked on the back of performances from almost a complete year ago it would have been insane.

Bravo has nobody but himself to blame. He's always underperformed except in rare bursts of brilliance and then it was back to his normal modus operandi of showing potential but never quite actually living up to it in international cricket. The ONLY reason he made the ICC ODI Team of the Year for 2014 was on the back of FOUR matches in January and February 2014 against New Zealand and England (with scores of 56*, 43*, 106 and 87*) and his bowling. If one takes the average for those four matches it is an insanely high 292.00. When you throw in all the other matches he actually played in for 2014 you get a pretty decent looking average of 46.11 with an aggregate of 415 runs. However 292 of those runs in 13 innings came from just 4 innings. In other words 70% of his aggregate runs for 2014 came from just 31% of his innings (all of which occurred at the start of the year). A mere 21% of his runs for the year came the last 61% of the matches he played.

He IS a very flashy player and as a result many people are duped into thinking he is actually a good player and quite possibly an indispensable player. But the harsh truth is that the West Indies' world cup chances are literally no different with or without Mr. Dwayne Bravo.

So what's the format of this world cup? I know I could just look it up, but my keyboard seems to be working really well and I just feel like typing.
