Looks like yet another one-sided 'bat first, rack up a huge score' match. Apparently while Williamson and Mitchell were going there was some tension, but as sp points out, the SR was always too low - when Williamson was out, NZ needed over 10 an over off the last 17 - was going to take a Maxwell-like innings to pull that off.

Only twice in this entire tournament has a team chased more than 300 to win (I am not counting Pakistan 'successfully' chasing 400 v NZ as that was Duckworth Lewis). 16 times a team has scored 300 batting first and won, while 20 matches a score batting first of under 300 has been chased.

Obviously the higher score, the harder it is to chase, but at the risk of sounding like Peter Moores - bat first, score 300, win the game. Bowl first, restrict the opposition to less than 300, win the game.

a quick glance at the '15, '19 and '23 world cup semi final teams and 3 of the 4 are ever present, with South Africa twice and England once making up the 4th spot

suggests to me that Australia, India and New Zealand, know what they're doing, while South Africa and England blow hot and cold (England mostly cold)
