Looks a great stand. 220, scored quickly too.

If England get 100-150 lead, the game will be live for most of tomorrow at least.

I think the 1980s WI attack at their ultimate peak would struggle to bowl out Ireland inside 2 days on this deck. Going to take something spectacularly special for either team to lose this game.

13 wickets in 9 sessions is frankly an abomination.....

A very productive day with the bat for England

is there much of a gap until test 2? If there isn't and the if pitch shows little sign of breaking up, it might be as well for England to bat and bat and bat and completely knacker the Pakistan bowlers ahead of test 2

Got more chance of Brook and Root dying at the crease, judging on today. Every single batter that has passed 50 has had to have treatment for cramping, on both sides.

Root and Brook didn't put a foot wrong, and they have stuck in and not lost their heads and got down to scoring. So well done to them...

Having said that, I will say that its pitches like this that murder test cricket. After 3 days, its gotten slower and is still true. No spin, no real movement for pacers, no pace, no bounce.....

Feels like I am watching an MLB home run hitting derby..... bowlers have literally no chance on this wicket so far

Given all the issues with the heat, I think it's remarkable that England batters have gone along at 5 an over. 48 overs less to score 64 runs fewer.

Root going into his tenth hour at the crease in oppressive conditions. Epic knock.

Brook surpasses his highest Test score. And Root about to join him.

They have one of the great records in English Test cricket within reach. May and Cowdrey's record stand of 411 v WI in 1957. Currently 386.

Currently the third highest for Englland with Bairstow/Stokes 399 in Cape Town 2016 still to beat.

Brook scores first Test double ton.
I always say that everybody's right.

Partnership goes past Stokes and Bairstow.

First time England have posted two double tons in the same innings since Gatting and Fowler in India in '85.

Test record partnership is 624!
I always say that everybody's right.

well done to them

this is clearly a road, but they still have to score the runs, keep their concentration, not make mistakes and all in some very trying conditions with the heat and so forth. An admirable performance. At what point do they think about declaring?

Is this the ground they're using twice?
