backup bowling just isn't good enough , when you have stokes and wood going at around 4.5 runs per over on a surface like this and your main spinner going at almost a run a ball then you just cant build pressure

moeen has done well keeping things tight but has looked completely toothless as a wicket-taking threat whilst doing so

I was thinking that Rashid would bowl short spells, then more to the lower order, and mainly bowl in the second innings. But England's team isn't set up like that. Moeen is doing ok. Another spinner could be bowling Wood and Stokes' overs.

so his next spell or two need to be good
