I thought it was Vaughan. Surprisingly Cook never got to No1 when he got that boatload of runs in Aussie.

Cook's best position was third. His highest ranking points total was after the Kolkata Test. I still think of his tour of India as his career peak.

selectors haven't had to watch him get flogged all over in early season conditions....... they'll only see him bowling in spin friendly late summer

which is okay, I guess, given where they are going
