I was wondering whether the umpire would check the front foot after the 10th wicket fell amidst the England celebrations. Probably thought nah stuff it.

Root number one batsman in the world, superb.

Don't think Broad will be that bothered, 8/15 was the key stat.

Has to be even though Root's century was superb on a bowlers wicket.

Yes, Broad ripped the game up.

POTS probably Broad, or Root. Joe I guess. Ginger for the Aussies.

I think the comparison between Ali and Stokes is an interesting one: Both wouldn't be in the side if they couldn't bat, both it is fair to say are batting all rounders, both have shown glimpses that they can be very effective with the ball, both are far happier attacking with the bat than defending though have played gritty innings.

The main difference between the two is Stokes is part of a pace unit whereas Ali is the sole spinner in the side. It is reasonable to assume that England will play two spinners in the UAE which will put huge pressure on Ali as he will be up against a direct comparision.

I feel that Stokes will improve far quicker with the ball than Ali will, spin is a hard art to master.

Broad easily man of the match. It is rare that a bowler so completely sets the tone for the match and so quickly.

that's what made me think of just sticking with the same side and give him the extra time

England would be daft to play Anderson at the Oval. The series is won, the Ashes are won, why bring back a bowler who will not be 100% fit with a long winter ahead?

Anderson on the other hand will want to play. Our Trevor needs to show that he is more capable of managing injuries and players than his predecessors.

I suppose the interesting question for the Australians will be, do they give Smith the captaincy for the last Test now Clarke is set to retire at the end of the series?

Broad has been infuriating. He has always looked a cracking bowler when he has bowled full. Yet for years he has insisted - or been told to - bowl back of a length. It's been pointed out that he has a very similar record to Jimmy over the last few years, is it safe to say he's under rated?

I think he's bowled very well the entire series without the wickets to match that.

The Aussie bowling attack will survive this. But potentially only Wee Davy and Smith will still be in the top six against NZ in November.
