Everyone who was screaming for a Parkinson debut will be purring...with a bit of sympathy for Jack Leach , I hope.

Won't exactly strengthen the England batting though !

Parkinson comes in for his debut.

Will he get a bowl?

All in all a magic session for England . Fair to say NZ are a bit under prepared , perhaps. But still excellent bowling , aggressive field placing and some great catching .
Anderson and Broad might feel they've given the previous selectors a bit of a "salute" already...and Potts could hardly have started better !

Whatever one thinks re Bairstow as a batsman it is hard to deny he adds a bit to the slip cordon. Lord only knows why Root had him patrolling the boundary in West Indies. I also like the look of the slips with Pope joining in at fourth. In fact the fielding all round has been sharp. Hope that continues.

New session though and still got to get the NZ tail - something England don't always do too well...

Remember Elizabeth2 meeting the players during a break in the Ashes Test in '77.

Lower order scoring runs.

Because pitch is easing up?

Or because the ball is older?

That is, will it be easier for England to bat than it was for NZ?
