Ashwin has the best SR for any spinner since WWI, with just Johnny Briggs and Colin Blythe ahead of him, which means he separates them from Bobby Peel. Minimum 100 wickets.

Which is phenomenal. True, he has helpful conditions, but surely no more than Murali. Question remaining is, for how long can he sustain it, and will injury trigger a decline, as it usually does for spinners.

In terms of being an all time great, the main argument to the contrary is his record outside Asia, where he has only played 13 games. And compares unexceptionally with other India spinners. Probably a case yet to be made.

The record isn't bad outside Asia, just insignificant.

Or KP and Swann. England's weakness is batting, keeping and spin... which is a lot of weakness, at the wrong time in the wrong place.

KP anyways is not going to make team. Swann is retired.

Joe Root can be pain for us with his big innings alongwith Cook.

Lack of Swann and Monty will make us favorites as the spin attack will be very weak in their abaence. England do not have other five fer spinners apart from those two.
