wouldn't surprise me if Pakistan lose this and go to the qualifiers.
just when icc want associates again, one of the two full members needed in the icc tournaments don't do well and make associates not wanted again which make the top icc people wanting to safe guard the top teams from being knocked out by the associates teams.
best results for Associates is if WI go to the qualifiers since ICC won't lose sleep if WI are not in the world cup and it would most likely make it more likely in future cups for 12 or 14 teams.
especially if they want Afghanistan in it.

First thing I heard or read on cricinfo, is that the win in the last ODI guaranteed Pakistan qualification for the World Cup.

think it meant to be saying if pakistan win the series they are close to guaranteeing the spot even then not certain since it nothing stopping WI scheduling 5 game series against Australia, india, england or anyone and winning 5-0.
