no 50 at lords to win the Test match.
Still a very good knock though and make india dangerous if they play 4 bowlers on Vizag.

Last night they were 150 ahead, if they knew they were going to target leaving India just over 300, then they should have aimed to hit that 150 runs in as quick as possible, and leave more overs.

i agree with that in theory but it was quite obvious that it was tough to play really aggressively without alot of risk, so trying to score at 5-6 per over from the off this morning might have saw a few wickets go down and then having to back off to avoid being bowled out, and ending up in no better a position than we did

The India press will want Pujara and the England press with want their liefling Stokes for MOM. Cook will be in the running not necessarily for this hundred but for his record batting in India.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Draw was always the result that seemed most likely. But if England wanted to win, they went the wrong way about it. Whether thats wrong or right is up for debate, but I have a feeling England will not get many chances in the 5 test series where they have India in this position, so more risky approach this morning might have suffice.

They had ten wickets, to be bowled out in the session would be to lose a man every 3 overs...takes some doing on a 500 v 500 pitch

I hope we win next toss. Winning toss here is like playing with White in Chess. Advantage before match begins.

the toss might not be too important if the ball turning from day 1.
the toss only really matters on pitches like these.

Imo it matters on any Indian wicket.

England have squandered that advantage. Yes they will say this was nice psychological advantage after what happened in Bangladesh, but they could not exploit the toss win. I would be hugely disappointed if we draw after winning toss and batting first.

not sure it does since the whole point of the new pitches is that if india lose the toss they can still dominate the game if they lose the toss since the bowlers can take wicket on the first innings.
anyway happy to agree to disagree.
