So the Aussies have named a squad for the first Test. And Cummins misses out, as expected. I'm going to have to look up Doggett and Weatherald. Press is leading with only one of the squad being under 30- Green. I thought Webster was younger...

Steve Smith (capt), Sean Abbott, Scott Boland, Alex Carey (wk), Brendan Doggett, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis (wk), Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Starc, Jake Weatherald, Beau Webster.

Khawaja
Weatherald
Labuschagne/Green
Smith
Head
Webster
Carey/Inglis
Starc
Boland/Abbott/Doggatt
Lyon
Hazlewood

Our old friend George Bailey is the Aussie chief selector!

Squad pretty much as expected to be honest...cam green expected to bowl 15-20 overs this week for WA so they will see how he pulls up before naming the XI

Looks like Doggett will be familiar to Durham fans.

England probably wont enjoy the fact that Marnus Labuschagne has suddenly remembered how to bat.

5 centuries in his last 7 innings is quite a dramatic turn in form

Only if he is fit to bowl though surely? Australia will want 5 bowling options...Hazelwoods fitness isn't great...starc can be expensive and Lyon hardly bowls for Australia these days, they will want a 4th genuine seamer in there....marnus is surely a shoe in now so if green isn't fit to bowl I wonder if he misses out and Webster plays....

Shocked that Australia didn't go with Fergus O'Neill or Xavier Bartlett. The former is taking wickets for fun for nothing across the globe, the other has been spot on in the LO team in recent times.

Surprised that Renshaw was overlooked for Weatherald.

Steve Waugh isn't happy... seems to infer George Bailey is a big wuss.

A BBC article suggested O'Neill might get a call up.

I'm a bit surprised Abbott is still on the radar.

He can bat a bit too. But I doubt he will play unless someone is injured.

Even if he doesn't play a big part in Perth , I think Lyon will play. With Starc/Hazlewood/Boland + one of Green or Webster , reckon Australia will be confident they have enough pace - even without Cummins.

What happened to the Fremantle doctor, the breeze that was rated a big help for spinners at Perth? Is that not a thing at the new ground?
