very sad news. I'd heard that he'd collapsed after a suspected heart attack, but it didn't really occur to me that he might not pull through. All pretty shocking really.

44! no age at all

Very sad news.

Way to early for someone to go.

I wonder what Defoe will do now that Sunderland have been relegated?

normally I'd assume that he'd be straight out of the door, especially now that he might have a bit more of an England career left in him, but there is the little lad Bradley to consider. Defoe seems to have struck up a genuine friendship with the little chap (who absolutely hero worships him) and I'm curious as to whether that might just convince him to stay

A tough decision to make, I'd assume

He hasn't scored in 10 games and hasn't looked like scoring either. I can't see many of the current Prem sides lining up to take him, Newcastle won't sign him because of the Sunderland connection which leaves Brighton or whoever comes up in the playoffs and would either of those be willing to bring someone new in on massive wages?

The only side who might take a risk on him is Palace if Allardyce is desperate to work with him again, he might end up stuck at Sunderland

Id totally disagree Powelly, 32 goals in 2 seasons will have half the league willing to pay him a few quid.

That's the thing, he's not scoring, he's mid thirties, and he's going to want exorbitant wages because of his record and being an ex England player. I guess he'll be on a free if his contract is running out so no transfer fees except for the bloody agent no doubt.

A few rumours that we might sign him. I hope not but if we can't hold on to Josh King, then it's a possibility, with Callum Wilson injured and Afobe not really cutting it.

Scored three less goals than Ibra and Aguero in a team that creates nothing. So hes not had great form in recent weeks, but the season taken as a whole, he still scores goals.

In a league where unproven strikers cost 15-20 million nowadays (as the aforementioned Afobe set you back), and even moderately successful players are double, a free transfer for a guy like Dafoe will interest a lot of clubs.

Seem to remember this conversation two years ago when Sunderland were apparenty mad for signing him on 65k a week!

You are right, It was Wolves who rejected 18 million for him and then sold him next window for half the price :facepalm
