Apparently if Figo gets the FIFA presidency he is going to scrap the current offside rule and go back to the old one. That means we would be going back to the days of having cracking goal strikes from around the box being ruled out for absolutely no reason except for the fact that another player who is having no effect on the shot is two inches offside. I know the Rooney decision was contentious but surely the rule can be tweaked so that in that situation the referee/linesman can rule him offside if they think he was interfering with play.

Many people will say that you are interfering with play because you are on the pitch, but the old rule was so frustrating at times, and caused the disallowing of some memorable goals, which maybe some people have forgotten.

Jack Charlton once screamed at a ref because he'd disallowed a goal.

The ref came over and said "Your forward was interfering with play"

Charlton replied "Of course he's interfering with play. Otherwise what's the point of him being on the pitch?"
