the thought process is to get a high-profile experienced-at-a-high-level-internationally coach to take them to the WC, and then a local bloke for the long term.

No local would want a short term contract, as they would have to give up a full-time position with their club now.

I wouldn't know about Scolari.

Frank Lowey now has a spare $32B - after selling his share of Westfield - he might give some to FFA.

This Dutch team is by some distance the worst team they have produced in my lifetime. Even their d team from a decade ago would have beaten this shower

they were pretty bad. I can see now why they failed to qualify.

That being said, there was much to like in England's performance.

England not as assured tonight as they were on Friday. Slow to get going and a bit flustered at the end. In between they weren't bad. Surprisingly they looked a bit at sea defensively. Italy had some really good chances to score which they didn't take, so England will need to work on that.

Sterling was impressive again, even getting back to his feet, with the ball still under control and looking to play, on the couple of occasions that he was scythed to the ground. I noticed that Lallana did the same when he came on, so perhaps this is something that Southgate has talked about. Alli should take notice, after all he hardly played in the Dutch game and took no part tonight. At the moment, Alli doesn't make the team, for me. Lingard looks good and the Ox did okay. I was prepared to hate the idea of Ashley Young in the side, and he didn't impress me much when he came on as a wing back on Friday, but I thought he did pretty well tonight and can play on both sides,of course.

I have no idea whether Southgate should start with Butland or Pickford, but I have become increasingly convinced that if he bottles it and goes for the 'experienced' cop out by starting with Hart in the first match in Russia, England will have a terrible tournament..... it's a feeling that can't seem to shake off

I'm also a bit worried by the prospect of Dier and/or Henderson in midfield. Neither seem able to move the ball forward, both always seem to go for the short square pass or the pass behind. Not sure how that helps us much. It makes us slow going forward, which is a shame because we have real pace up front to take advantage of any quick ball played up to them

Thank feck that bunch of meaningless football matches is done and dusted and we can get back to the proper stuff this weekend.

Happy to say that I didn't see a single second of any international game this past week.

I couldn't care less who England pick these days. Henderson's Dier or Diers Henderson or whatever. Are we still going or is Boris going to put his size 11 down.
