There's a new format which I'm still struggling to understand.

Arsenal and Manchester City were lucky to come away with goalless draws against Italian opposition.

Each team plays 8 games against 8 different opponents. The top 8 go through and the next best 16 teams go into a play off to see which 8 go through to the last 16 alongside the top 8 teams!

Think that clears it up perfectly.

I personally would have preferred the top 12 going through with the next best 8 playing for a place in the last 16, not that it makes much difference.
