Arsenal win the Community Shield.

Tied 1-1 with Manchester City. Won on penalties.

Spurs agree a deal with Bayern for the sale of Kane. Better than him walking away on a free next summer, I suppose.

Man C or Arsenal for the title?

Tall order for Newcastle to do better (or even match) last year's results. Might struggle to finish top 6 this year, especially given that their first 4 matches are against Villa, Man C, Liverpool and Brighton..... ouch! That'll be tough to get off to a flyer

Given that one of the very best strikers in world football is going to bayern for £84million, why on earth are Liverpool paying £111million for a midfielder?

Desperation, I suppose

Nowt better than, when looking at the BBC football page to find out the score of a tricky opening fixture for Newcastle, to see the headline 'brilliant Newcastle thrash Villa'

the season is underway

top of the league :dance

just the small matter of Man city away, then Liverpool at home, then Brighton away..... what could possibly go wrong? :clap

the yellow card for Martinez just goes to show that you can take the boy out of Argentina, but you can never take Argentina out of the boy

he really is a piece of work....

Arsenal also won, but draws for Tottenham, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Even better for the champions.

Man Utd nick a one - nil-er after being battered by Wolves in the second half by the sounds of it

I'm looking forward to seeing the late 'not a pen' decision. Football might bring in all sorts of technology, but some things, it seems, never change

Keeper came out for the cross, missed the ball entirely and wiped out the striker instead. About a minute left on the clock. Not a pen said the ref. Not a pen said VAR. Both Howard Webb and the PGMOL general manager have apologised to Wolves for the 'clear and obvious error' by the officials. I wonder if they'll rescind the yellow card for Wolves manager for being angry about it?

No joy for the Mags at the Etihad. I wasn't expecting any joy, but it was only 1-0 in the end. IIRC Arsenal went there last season with the title on the line and got a 4-1 thumping

Klopp thinks the red card for MacAllister should be rescinded because the contact in the foul was minimal. I haven't seen it, so he might be right for all I know...... but then Liverpool were awarded a pen when their new striker went down very easily in the box after minimal contact as well....... presumably he also said the penalty should have been rescinded too.....

he didn't? :o

it might have only been 1-0, but Newcastle weren't really at the races last night. Comfortable win for City really.

this bit of uncharacteristic honesty won't surprise anyone

His mate was having a nightmare match and he didn't want to make it worse for him.

good riddance.... the game is much better off without him
