world cup squad

Mary Earps, Hannah Hampton, Ellie Roebuck

Millie Bright (c), Lucy Bronze, Jess Carter, Niamh Charles, Alex Greenwood, Esme Morgan, Lotte Wubben-Moy

Laura Coombes, Jordan Nobbs, Georgia Stanway, Ella Toone, Katie Zelem, Kiera Walsh

Rachel Daly, Beth England, Lauren Hemp, Lauren James, Katie Robinson, Chloe Kelly, Alessia Russo

I really thought that Houghton might have been recalled. For whatever reason, the manager just doesn't seem to want to go there. Houghton herself said earlier this year that sometimes you won't get a call up no matter you do. Looks as though she was right

Millie Bright as capt is less controversial

Re: Women's football

Postby sussexpob » Wed May 31, 2023 3:35 pm

I read an interesting article the other day, that was talking about the difference in the type of injuries they find between women and men's football.

Sadly for women, they apparently get nowhere near as many niggly injuries in places like the hamstrings, ankles or calf, but apparently the amount of MCL and ACL tears there have been is absolutely horrendous - and they are the career wreckers. Scientists dont know whether its a biological thing, or whether it is something to do with history/facilities/relative fitness levels, which will be combatted over time.

But apparently data shows woman footballers are suffering this really long types of injuries at scary levels.

(no sly prejudice or criticism was intended by the above. Not a snide attempt at suggesting women are weaker or some nonsense like that)

I thought the ACL's was linked to the menstrual cycle? Not that I am an expert in this field.

Couldn't tell you, Finch. The article I read suggested it was an unknown, but I haven't read anything else on the subject. A very quick glance at google seems to show that you are right, and its widely believed it is caused by a woman's cycle, with changes to the shape of the muscle.

A very rusty looking England held to a goalless draw by Portugal. Squandered a few chances..... hit the bar, hit the post, missed a couple of sitters. Touch, sharpness, everything, just wasnt there tonight, so they'll need to sort that out with the WC just 3 weeks away. They nearly conceded too, rolling the ball back to earps who made a hash of her feet. Ball just rolled past the post.

Only this match and then a behind closed doors friendly with Canada to get their post holiday football heads switched back on. Might have needed a couple more, tbh, judging by this afternoon

I wonder if Ginger went

Australia were clinging on by their fingernails at the end - nervy start without their talisman Kerr.

Going to have to go up a gear if they're going to challenge for the tournament. Expectation is pretty high here, even though they're only ranked 10 in the world - reckon anything less than the semis will be regarded as a disappointment with the home advantage.
