Quite a start from the English clubs, bar Utd (sorry Mike and Red Devil)

The CL promises to be a tight competition again, with PSG having the all stars, and Bayern with Lewandowski back, attempting to regain their crown.

All English clubs have a chance imo. Chelsea with their tight defence looking like our best bet.

As for the Europa. Who knows until we see who drops down from the CL groups.

In the Europa competitions, West Ham United won but there were 2-2 draws for Tottenham and Leicester.

how is Kevin de Bruyne still on the field?

To make it worse its just a yellow card which means it can not be dealt with after the game.

Decisions like that do make you question the integrity of the game....

Wonderful goal from Messi but PSG didn't look that great. Better finishing and it could well have been a different game. That said, their keeper is immense.

As for the Porto keeper..........

Referee needs to be retrained if he thinks that isnt a red.

While FC Sheriff's victory in Madrid last night must be right up there with the most impressive giant killings in the history of football, if not the biggest, its hard to feel positive about the success of this club considering its parent company would make a list of the dodgiest operations currently in the world. Even when placed in the context of Tiraspol's well known endemic corruption, they are a special case - they recently offer voters cash in local elections to guarantee a favourable government, and the extent of the monopoly they have on everyday life in the breakaway Republic is something that is inescapable - they pretty much own everything in terms of infrastructure, shops, energy, telecoms - everything. Its hard to distinguish where the private entity and state start and end. Its an oligarchy vanity project that makes people like Chelsea look like nothing in comparison, their stadium is brand spanking new in a city that is falling apart.

Considering state ownership laws, I wonder if UEFA have done any digging into their arrangements and ownership -because I would guess they are not above board, and that it breaches several rules. Their former silent owner just happened to accumulate vast wealth when his father was President.

The referee from last nights Liverpool game should never work at this level again.

Two identical fouls separated by a couple of minutes of play, one is given as a penalty, the other not. There can be no logical explanation for the referee deciding differently, other than through an established bias against or for one of the sides. And that is not good enough.

The fact that he went back on his decision was which confused me.

What a fantastic night for Norwegian football!! Bodø thrash Roma 6-1 in what must be one of the competitions biggest surprises ever.

Knutsen's team have been a revelation in domestic football in the last couple of years, but a few big teams are going through rough patches and rebuilds, so there was always a bit of an asterisk attached. This result will change that.

How the hell does a team from a tiny town from Arctic Nordland crush one of Europe's historical big boys? Crazy.

I guess it would be comparable with Potter in Sweden. I wonder if Knutsen will, like him, have a few watching in England what he is doing North of the Arctic circle.

A random fact- the first team ever from the Arctic to win a top tier game in Europe.
