Been a long time since Newcastle beat Leicester

I was pretty happy that Newcastle were safe anyway, but this helps enormously

It's been several years since 35 points wasn't good enough for safety and Newcastle now have 37

Shocking performance by Wolves vs Brighton. Apparently, Bunro had a falling out with a few of the players including Raul which has caused a toxic dressing room. Change of management is on the cards. You can tell the players were not putting any effort in whatsoever even thou we could still qualify for the Europa League.

Final day drama as Bristol Rovers, who were 17th in League 2 at the start of 2022, secured automatic promotion on goal difference by beating Scunthorpe 7-0

They had to better Northampton Town's result by 5 goals and Town quickly raced into a 3-0 lead in the first 20 mins, but their match ended 3-1

As befits a team managed by Joey Barton, when the 7th goal went in it sparked a massive pitch invasion which halted proceedings for 15 mins and they only got the fans off the pitch when the ref threatened to abandon the game if they didn't.

Apparently it was Barton pleading with them to get back in the stands which made them finally get back.

Pretty mad ending, got to sting for Northampton fans.

Meanwhile, referees get less and less concerned with covering up the fact they want Liverpool to win the title.

Fabinho elbows Son in the neck/jaw, and of course its not a red card.... and of course, we wont bother using VAR to confirm its a straight red once again, much like when Mane kung-fu kicked Dubravka last week. Or when Fabinho should have been sent off the week before... and so on

An interesting stat - it was Fabinho's 6th foul to stop a counter of the night ..... so all in all, he got away with 5 yellow cards, 3 corresponding reds, a straight red.

Still, even with a 12th man Liverpool couldnt get the job done. 1-1, and City's title to lose now.

I saw that someone on the BBC live match report during the second half twaddled that Fabinho was only 5 reckless challenges away from a red card, which tickled me a bit

Prior to today's game, I couldn't decide whether Newcastle had a chance. Man City might either still have their heads scrambled from Wednesday night or they might be looking for a dog to kick

It's every week. Thiago and him foul teams to shreds, and never get any punishment

Not just mutterings. Northampton have formally complained to the FA.
https://www.theguardian.com/football/20 ... -promotion

Doubt it'll do them much good. Yes, arguably Scunthorpe's team selection wasn't the selection of a team that was going all out to win, but already relegated with nothing to play for, giving some development players some match practice is probably defensible, if a bit eyebrow raising. Teams used to put out second XIs or their under 21 squads all the time for the League Cup, and no-one queried it.

I keep thinking Man City are going to blink/bottle it as per the Champions League exit, but they've bounced back strongly. Mathematically this will go to at least Liverpool's penultimate game next week and probably to the final day, but City can for practical purposes put this away with if they can get a win in a potentially tricky away fixture at West Ham at the weekend. That'll put them six up and at least 8 goals ahead of Liverpool on GD, meaning while Liverpool would still be technically in it, they'd need a miracle.

Meanwhile Everton are clinging on at the bottom with another point. Looks like the final relegation spot will also go to the wire.
