This is a masterclass of keeping the ball and wasting time

Blimey, we have won a final. Nothing between the sides though England finished the strongest

Kelly with the goal. Maybe the reason why England won the tournament.... difference makers on the bench. I said after the Spain (I think) game she was excellent, and again today she makes an impact with the others. England might not have been the best starting XI, but they beat teams in extra time, and pummeled the two scandie teams in second halves....

Really happy for the team. It feels like a first time winner from a football powerhouse will do the game a lot of good. The three ladies in my house got invested in it, so maybe I can finally get one of them to kick a football.

well, well, well

so that's what it feels like

I've waited a long time to find out after not even being aware of the world cup in '66 when I was a boy...it's taken until I'm bloody 61

I think I imagined that I'd shout and scream and jump around, but in the end I just sat there a bit stunned and a bit relieved, but gloriously happy. Then I watched the celebrations with tears rolling down my face for about half an hour. I couldn't stop them.... I hate being older.... I'm turning into a right soft sh1te

Gawd bless these women

and gawd bless them again for not subjecting us to penalties

I was pretty sanguine about everything in normal time. I was delighted with Toone's goal, but I knew the equaliser was coming.

I was really nervous in extra time. Germany had the better first 15 mins and although the game was going back and forth it was Germany who created the more dangerous moves. England looked like they were just lumping the ball hopefully forward.

Kelly's goal changed the whole dynamic. I expected wave upon wave of German pressure and furious England defending trying to hang on, but what I got was 10 minutes of superb game management. It was really professional and if I'm honest, I didn't think England had that in their locker. Kelly was fantastic throughout all that

Team of the tournament? I've assumed that if a player didn't make the semi's then they weren't good enough

Mead
Bronze Bright Hegering Kachaoui
Mead Stanway Oberdorf Matteo Cascarino
Popp

bench Russo Bacha Diani Gwinn Asslani Frohms Williamson

Presume that was meant to be "Earps" in goal...

Have only been able to follow this via text and highlight packages but I had the impression that England under their brilliant manager knew exactly what they were doing throughout : same XI taking the field ; subs introduced to finish the job with full confidence they would. Nervous of course once it went to extra time : but given Earps was so good maybe this would have been one penalty shoot out where England were favourites ! Glad it didn't come to that : always better to see a proper result on the pitch ... well done those Lionesses :salute

yes Earps.... getting old

before the final I couldn't decide between her and Frohms, because their records were very similar, but the final result swung it Earps way

I think I might know to whom SPOTY will award team of the year and coach of the year

we should probably be grateful that the Euro's were a year late. If they'd gone ahead last year, England would have been managed by the bestest, bravest coach in the world, the man who took a fairly decent side with some potential and turned it into a shambles, before ssiping off to the States.

If he'd still been in charge, we'd have still been waiting. There's a message in there somewhere for the men's administrators to ponder

what's also interesting, if I'm right (I think I am)...... the Euro's have always been won by a team with a female manager

Both Norway's wins were with male coaches, so certainly not true
