Do they justify run away favourites?

Based on how shocking Villa were at the end of last season ( the 6-1 to us in particular stands out ), then losing their 2 best players (Benteke and Delph) I'd say so.

A lot has been said over the past two summers about Spurs wasting the Bale money and Liverpool wasting the Suarez money. In my view Vila have followed suit this season by wasting the Benteke money. I only hope that the media pick up on that (if it rings true), rather than ignore it and let Sherwood and the Villa board get away with it.

Bournemouth could hardly ask for a nicer start to the first top flight season.

Man U continuing where they left off last season, unconvincing 1-0 win at home.

Didn't see the game but just the fact the only goal was an own goal makes it sound like an uninspiring opener.

I didn't see it either, just heard the match report after the game.

One consolation for Bournemouth after today's game is that Aston Villa beat Stoke 1-0 away from home in the first game of last season, and look at what happened to both those sides by the end of the season. Not that I think we have anywhere near the quality of the Stoke squad. Could be a long hard season, away to Liverpool next week.

Perhaps my messing up the process for getting tickets for today's game was a bit of a blessing in the end!

The game has really changed if that goal by Jerome can be disallowed for a high boot.
