think tonight has showed what just about everyone who watches football , except for wenger, have been saying about arsenal , that they need someone to play that holding midfield role who is significantly better than either arteta or flamini

Horrendous display by both the English sides tbh. Liverpool very lucky to escape with a 2-1 win against by far the weakest side in the group.

2-0 incredibly flatters Arsenal. Their passing would even embarass the schoolboys. 1 Shot on target despite playing an aggressive team and Welbz missed 3 easy chances. Their defending was Brazil in the WC semis level. Should've lost at least 6-0. Awful.

They probably also need another CB. Mertesacker is incredibly slow and looked clueless up against one of the fastest players in the world Aubameyang.

they do but I think mertesacker and koscielny are capable and actually have a pretty good record as a partnership , and whilst they could probably do with improving in that area I don't think its anywhere near as blatant as the need for a holding midfielder , and that need for the midfielder looks to have been fairly obvious for at least a couple of years now

if you asked any arsenal fan at the end of last season what is your priority for the transfer window I would expect a very large majority would have said a defensive midfielder

Should've got Khedira. Another problem is Arsenal get caught out time and time again on the counter after letting the full backs over lap then losing the ball.. and Arteta/Flamini aren't good enough to track back and cover. All the best teams use pacey wingers to counter attack and it usually brings success. Just look at the Liverpool game at Anfield last season; perfect example.

Maldini, Baresi, and Canavarro would have struggled to contain Dortmund last night, if their midfield had left them open like that.

not a good week for the English clubs

man city concede a last minute goal to lose against Bayern

Chelsea draw at home (edit : hadn't seen Chelsea's goal as I was watching the man city game, definite foul by fabregas in the build-up so shouldn't have stood)

Liverpool win but very unconvincing against the weakest team in the group

arsenal hammered away to Dortmund

It's strange watching CL football without Man Utd being involved.

Totti is now the oldest goalscorer in the CL.

Doesn't look pretty for Man City in Europe...and another error by Hart.
