Utd haven't been as loose with the chequebook over the years as some teams have, and the Glazers have been milking the club. It's time they gave something back. To keep up they have to update this squad and do it now.

Do the top players still want to come to Utd, when they have Madrid, barca, even Chelsea bidding? We know Utd are a massive club, but no CL football is a big minus.

I don't think no CL is an issue. It should only be for one season. If Utd don't finish in the top 4 this time then there is a real problem at the club.

They have to do what City did. Pay the players more wages to make the players change their mind

So, Man Utd have signed Rojo. Decent player but £16m is about twice too much. He'll improve the defence but he's not going to make a massive difference like Hummels or Benatia would.

Yep, money talks. City though were a club moving in the right direction. Players are greedy, but they will be wanting to play in a team that will be challenging for the title/playing CL Football. Utd finished 7th last season, and have their work cut out to make the top four this season, although I think they will. To be honest, players like Kroos, Suarez etc will be wanting to play in Spain before going to Manchester Utd. That may change within a couple of years?

Just read that United have spent £165 million over the last 5 transfer windows, and only PSG have spent more than that in the same time frame?

If True, thats a real worry for United considering the state of the team on the pitch.

He was excellent in the World Cup. I think personally that's a brilliant transfer.

A number of people in the press, both in Germany and England, stated that Kroos to Man United was a done deal as early as March last year. His close friends have said that he was openly discussing about moving to Manchester around this time, and when asked directly by the press, he used the opportunity to discuss about how the Premier League is a great league, and how he would listen to any offers to play there should Bayern continue to refuse him a deserved pay rise.

The key here is that he also said something along the lines of "But as yet, no one has offered me anything, so we wait and see".....

Kroos wanted apparently £150-200k a week, which Bayern couldn't afford with their already high wage bill. He would have signed for United in a heart beat had that money been on the table on a contract, and Guardiola also basically said " I cant keep him and we have to sell if he doesn't sign the contract". Bayern only wanted 18-20 Million at the time.

So after 6 months of waiting for United to actually offer him something, Madrid just went to Bayern "heres 25 million, give us his mobile number...." a contract was drawn up and there we have it.... bye bye Bayern.

Its said that the only direct contact with Man United he had was when Van Gaal called him to beg him to join United, who realising that Madrid had joined the party, suddenly decided to actually try to buy him.

Kroos wanted to be a top player at a top club, and be paid what he deserved.... he would have gone to Man United, but they buggered it up. Arguably, if Man United were willing to make him a top earner in Europe, he would have gone over Madrid, as he was apparently sick of playing in a Bayern team where his skills were underappreciated.

That was about 4-5 years ago now, that wont be in the same period.

I meant it in terms of the amounts...... Real Madrid have bought Irrasmendi/Isco/Bale/Kroos and James for huge money in the last 14 months.

If it was pure "spend" then Man United are arguably no where near some of the elite teams.... they just haven't sold any assets at all.

Well, like many other top players, he's not at Utd, for whatever reason.

As my original post on the issue alluded to... hes not at Man United because the people responsible for negotiations at the club seem to be acting like crackheads.
