According to the BBC, it would cost them approx 450k. Even some of the Sunderland fans agree it sets a bad precedent and would rather see wages donated to their foundation ( or another charity ) which would be a better option.
Its the giving of money full stop I think its problematic. Everytime a team fails to live up to expectation, do they pay the fans? If Man U lose away to Burnley 1-0, is that sufficiently bad?
