that's not to say that I don't have hope for the future, because I actually do. Not 2 years time, maybe not even 4 years time, but I feel there are enough talented 19, 20, and 21 year olds around playing regular first team football for their clubs to perhaps realistically challenge for honours in 6 or 8 years time, as long as we don't knee jerk sack the manager and replace him with a donkey like our 'Arry

Never thought I'd see an England side play such an enterprising brand of football. Encouraging signs and the Uruguay result means that all is not lost yet for us. Rooney needs to go though. The defence leaves a lot to be desired too. Baines and Johnson were poor.

England yet again lose against the Italians. We needed to bury our chances which we didn't and at this level that makes all the difference. Sterling worked his socks off last night. Balotelli's gesture to the cameras at full time was typical of him.

Going forward we looked fine but we were shocking defensively. The full backs were out of position/had no protection and Italy capitalised on that. If Uruguay don't have Suarez then our defence should cope but against top quality attacks we'll struggle.

I know people will say that Hart didn't stand a chance with either goal, my view is a world class keeper would have saved one of them. The first came through a mass of defenders and was in the corner but he dived fractionally late. The second goal he was technically beaten at his near post. Apart from those two goals I can't remember him having any opportunities to make a save of any note in the game.
