English football 2022-23

The beautiful game!

tough two weeks coming up for Arsenal. Away games to Man City and Newcastle with a home game against Chelsea in between. After the Arsenal match, City have a trip to Fulham and two home games against West Ham and Leeds. Unless Arsenal can find a way to beat Man City on Wednesday night, then it's hard not to see Man City being top in a couple of weeks time with a game in hand

Bit of class from Tottenham's players, who have offered to pay for their fans journey and ticket to Newcastle, after travelling all that way to witness a bloodbath!!

Massive game tonight - City v Arsenal for the title.

Wolves must be safe now, and Brentford one win away from safety. Southampton and Forest seem destined for the drop (my father-in-law will be devastated, lifelong Forest supporter).

The any 3 from 9 scenario at the start of month has condensed down to 3 from 5, I think. Southampton, Everton, Leeds, Leicester and Forest. The rest all look okay now, barring something utterly remarkable

I can't help but think that if Arsenal lose tonight, then City will steamroller them for the title. Arteta says not, but he's almost certainly wrong

Forest have a really difficult run in to the end, I believe also.

I have a friend who is a massive Everton fan, one of those that always predicts a title win in August.... I would love to see Everton relegated so I can wind him up for the next 12 months. He launched into some wild rant in August when I said Everton would be in trouble, and said theyd finish no less than 6th place :lmao The delusion of the football fan!

am I right in thinking that Everton are one of those teams that have never been relegated from the top tier of English football?

I only know this because someone proved me wrong on it recently; but no club still in existence in the football pyramid of England has avoided relegation throughout its history. Its a universally accepted myth that certain clubs havent. Arsenal were relegated pre-WWI. Everton and Liverpool hit hard times in the 50s. Chelsea spent a lot of years in Division 2 in the 70-80s. Cant remember when Spurs went down, but they did.

The one I did know was United, in 1974, with Tom Doherty in charge. Relegated a wonder team, and didnt even get sacked..... in fact, it was losing to City that relegated Man United that year, although Man United fans always argue with 3 pages of results, timings and loads of maths, why it was another goal in a game at Norwich that did it.... :lmaoagain

Or perhaps not. Massive win for Forest tonight. Tough run in, as sussex says, but it's a ray of hope.

(and obviously I meant Bournemouth not Brentford above :facepalm )

City's title to lose now it would seem. Not over yet, their run in is no picnic with several potentially tough away outings, not to mention the sheer number of games they have to pack in - including the champion's league semis, they have to play 9 games in 4 and a half weeks, compared to Arsenal's 5. Quite how Brighton and United still have eight premier league games to play in 30 days baffles me - I know they've both been on deep cup runs which gives you some ground to make up, but this far behind? 7 games to play in May?

And what the hell has happened to Chelsea?

Yes massive win for Forest. Yuppie will be happy!

Arsenal went to Manchester and were meek. For 15 minutes in the second half they upped the tempo and caused City a few problems but apart from that, it should have been 6 or 7 - 1.

I'm pretty sure Law sending Utd down is a myth.

I guess its entirely down to you opinion of how you see it. IIRC, Law scored near the end of the game when Birmingham were not winning, so if there was a "dagger moment" for United fans, then it was probably that. Birmingham went onto score 2 minutes before time, and rendered the result at City meaningless, but that happened after.... Law himself has always been distraught about that moment.

In fact, I think Denis Law is credited with being the first player never to celebrate a goal against a former club. He slotted it in and his team-mates went to cheer him up rather than celebrate.

Indeed, Arsenal in many ways were lucky in the first half not to have been shredded to pieces. Haaland was less than his clinical self... had 3 odd chances he'd usually put in the bag. No doubt about who is the better side after last night.

Been a good season for Arsenal, but all fell apart once they lost Saliba.
