I've worked out that Sunderland have spent over 100mil on the first 5 players they've brought in. I think there's a 6th in the pipeline too. Clearly the owners are trying hard to avoid the drop next season, but are still the bookies favourite to do so. Not a single acquisition with any PL experience though, which feels like a gamble, but will undoubtedly be the cheaper option

Newcastle heavily linked with Ekitike again. At first I saw this as another clickbait piece of old nonsense, but it seems to be gaining traction. Howe wanted him back in the Jan '22 window, but the player was reluctant to leave Reims halfway through the season. They went back for him in the summer, looked as though the deal was about to be done and then the player decided to go to PSG instead for something in the region of E20m. Unsurprisingly in a side with Neymar Messi and Mbappe up top he ended up complaining bitterly about a lack of game time and a lack of career development (no sh1t Sherlock), so they sold him to Frankfurt for E16m, where he has reignited his career. He would be a great signing, I think, but I don't imagine he will arrive. Frankfurt want E100m for him. Newcastle don't want to go above E75m. He's the sort of player that clubs with fewer PSR constraints would step in to sign at the last minute and having turned the move down twice already I doubt the player himself particularly wants to come.

Newcastle women have signed Jordan Nobbs after her release from Aston Villa. Okay, not in the same league as London City signing Asllani a year ago, but ought to be a good signing if she can stay fit enough for long enough. They signed a couple of players from Southampton last week after releasing 12 players from last season's squad. Presumably more signings will have to be made

Liverpool apparently trying to sign Isak from Newcastle.... unless the player threatens to go on strike, Newcastle should just say not for sale unless you want to test our resolve - and by that, lets talk 180-200 million

What Liverpool are attempting to do is unsettle the player, because they're the ones putting all this stuff in the public domain, but they have also put it about that they are going to move in on Ekitike, which I imagine they are doing in the hope that they can use it as leverage in any approaches for Isak. As far as I know Liverpool haven't actually approached Newcastle directly yet, unless that's changed in the last couple of days

I don't expect Ekitike to arrive at Newcastle and, equally, I fully expect Isak to still be wearing black and white when the season starts next month

Ekitike will move to Liverpool. Newcastle will not get into a bidding war for players. Liverpool have agreed a deal with the player, but not yet agreed the sale price with Frankfurt. This is a player who does not want to come to Newcastle. I'm really surprised they went in for him in the first place. I could have told them what the outcome would be. I told everybody else. Isak going nowhere
