Don Howe, Arsenal manager between 83-86 has died. Also managed West Brom, QPR and, analogously, Galatasaray.

I see Sky devoted Monday Night Football to analysing the 66 WC final last night (no doubt due to lack of real action).

They used current technology to confirm the third goal was right to stand. Maybe finally that will be the last word on this but I doubt it.

I saw that, not sure how they managed to convert from the normal hd to scratchy black and white, would expect there to have been some tolerance involved. Especially as they concluded it was over the line by about a centimetre.

I'll take the conclusion although I am skeptical.

As expected, Messi wins the Ballon d'Or. His fifth.

Messi collects his fifth Ballon d'or award. Not much in it really, though Barca's trophy count must have been taken into consideration. A unique talent, then some.

Mascherano given a 1 year jail term for tax fraud, although Spain don't usually enforce jail terms of under 2 years so he'll get away with paying back the E1.5M in unpaid tax, E200,000 in interest on the tax, plus E800,000 in fines

He should have stayed in Britain.... we don't bother to check the tax of rich people... uncivilised to check the tax of rich people when there are still loads of poor people who need their benefits stamped on

Carlisle Utd had their new pitch laid last week, in readiness for this weekend's home fixture.

Now I'm very dim........ but how on earth has the grass knitted together in a week and a half, and in January? Surely having 22 footballers running, kicking and sliding all over it will just tear it up?

Not sure, but Wigan Athletic once managed relay a spanking new surface with barely a fortnight between Football and Rugby League commitments during a horrid February.

just seen an interview with Carlisle's groundsman and he said......

"am I lying awake at night worried that strips of turf will start rolling up? Yes, I am"

I'm not surprised. It hasn't knitted together yet, that much was obvious from the footage

Another 2 goals for Javier Hernandez today. Bet Louis Van Gaal is really regretting not keeping him

It;s not that Man Utd lack goalscorers. It's LVG's style of play. Hernandez would probably have no luck at OT.
