Presumably to help Jim White's blood pressure.

Transfer windows should be extended - the summer one until the end of September, winter one begins in Mid-December and ends Mid-February.

I am sure no one cares a jot, but Rosenborg where damn lucky to beat relegation favourites Sarpsborg 08 last night, but the win leaves them already 9 points clear with half the Norwegian season gone. Having been stunned by Bodoe-Glimt away a few weeks back, it would have been a third defeat this year, all coming against the bottom teams. They were saved by a dubious winner (miles offside) and a 35 yard screamer free kick.

The annoying thing is, while Rosenborg struggle against teams that set up to hit them on the break, they steam roller the top sides week in week out who always set up to attack them..... doesnt take a genius to work out you setup like Chelsea when they play Barcelona, but no one does it.

Sounds like watching Bradford, can't beat bottom of the league sides who set their stall out but often fare better against opposition of more quality.

Probably very similar types of leagues too, as the teams are now all fit as fiddles, and the gaps in the league are governed by the odd player with a level of increased skill or touch that creates the better chances in mostly scrappy affairs. Most Norwegian teams play a really energetic pressing game, and the technique to find the gaps in the press isnt there, so they can create stalemate situations in most equal matches when the away team just wants a point.

But those teams that simply show no ambition and say "play through us" often looks unpenetrable when the better attacking team have to knit tight passing, or are forced to switch the ball quickly to gain space. It makes it very hard for teams like Rosenborg who start committing more and more men forward because they feel like a point is not good enough... twice they had one centre back isolated on the break, and twice they conceeded.

A good example of how a tiny difference in a side makes so much of a difference can be seen in Stroemsgodset... sold a 16 year old wonderkid who wasnt a finished article, but had a range of passing in tight space that no other player in the league has ever had, and they go from a dominant force to mid table obscurity despite reinvesting money in his transfer to improving all areas of the starting line up.

A random football question; when Wembley was being rebuilt, why didn't the FA stage the FA Cup at Twickenham, or another English ground? If they had to play it in another country, then why not the Stad du France?

Twickenham is a highly sacred HQ for Rugby Union, and the idea of giving it to the FA and football caused uproar. The RFU originally considered an offer from the FA, who wanted to us it,but suffered a huge backlash from rugby fans enmass.

Other events, like the Rugby League Finals, were held at Twickenham. I guess there is a huge rivalry traditionally between the sports, and a lot of cross snobery.... if football fans call rugby players Egg chasers all the time, why should that lack of respect be repaid by doing them a favour?

The RFU own Twickenham as the FA own Wembley, so I guess there was nothing the government could do to force its use.

There is talk of Chelsea using Twickenham when Stamford Bridge is being re-developed ( if Wembley is unavailable ) guess thats a non-starter
