Scotland will be hoping with the way things stand that the Republic of Ireland can beat Poland away. Thing is the Republic would take a draw as it keeps them second and automatically qualified, whereas if Poland win they claim at least second.

I dont buy into this idea that N.Ireland have achieved much by qualifying. This Romania team is the worst in my life time by some distance, there is only one or two players that play in decent leagues now as opposed to having a really good team in years gone by. Hungary are terrible, Greece are in a crisis on all levels and lost twice to Faroe Islands which says about how good they are, Finland have never qualified for anything...... with N.Ireland's affiliation to English football, they have the players to qualify. They should have qualified against this detritus. There is a legitimate argument that this is the poorest group for a qualification tournament that has ever been assembled!!!

Republic of Ireland will probably lose to Poland away last game and finish in the tournament solely on the basis that a third team qualify this time. Its hard to be that enthusiastic about that achievement.

I guess the problem with all sports at the moment is the idea of ranking systems deciding things like groups, even though the ranking systems are utterly terrible.

Romania are ranked 13th in the world, but have won 1 in 5 games this year, against the mighty Faroe Islands. The last time they beat a top 15 nation was in 2012, in a friendly vs Belgium.....

On the flipside, Uruguay are ranked 20th having beaten two top 10 ranked teams in a world cup, beat Chile recently, and only losing to Argentina (rank 1) Colombia (rank 4) and Chile (rank 9) in the last year.....Romania's only competitive appearance against a top ten side resulted in conceeding 8 goals over two games vs Holland.
