Indian footballer Peter Biaksangzuala has died from the injuries he suffered as he landed awkwardly while celebrating a goal.

The 23-year-old damaged his spinal cord doing a somersault after scoring an equaliser for Bethlehem Vengthlang FC against Chanmari West FC.

Biaksangzuala was taken to hospital and had surgery, but passed away.

WOW.

That's very sad.

I always cringe when I see footballers like Nani do backward somersaults when they score for this very reason. I wish they wouldn't do it.

I've always hated players doing stuff like that, I remember Obefami Martins breaking his leg doing a somersault a few years ago, and his career never recovered.

Its an unnecessary risk and hopefully this will serve as a wake-up call.

Anything for a publicity stunt, i'd laugh if the boy eventually decides to support Stockport County.

Former Arsenal midfielder Robert Pires says he was punched in the face by an opposition coach during an Indian Super League game, reports the Independent.

The ISL said it was looking into an allegation that Pires was hit at half time in the game between his side FC Goa and Atletico de Kolkata on Thursday.

"Pires said he was punched on the face by the Atletico coach and it is very shameful," said FC Goa coach, and former Brazilian great, Zico.

"I am telling you what my players told me and I didn't see that myself but I don't think that Pires will lie and say something that didn't happen."

It's always possible he put his face against the coach's fist!

Just read the article about Fiorentina's UFOs.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-29342407

As usual the teaser link on the homepage tends to suggest that the beeb has solved the story when they have done nothing of the sort.

I enjoy reading these stories but it is almost like the beeb are doing investigative journalism without any investigation! They just leave it as open ended as they found it and advertise a radio or tv show.

South Africa's football captain and goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa has died after being shot, South African police say.

The incident reportedly happened at Meyiwa's girlfriend's house in Vosloorus, south of Johannesburg.

The 27-year-old played for Orlando Pirates and had played in South Africa's last four Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

On Saturday, he was in action for his club, when they progressed to the semi-finals of the South African League Cup

Oscar Pistorious was locked up, so thats 1 less suspect.

But in all seriousness, terribly sad news. R.I.P

Indeed sad, but as I said on the news thread regarding Oscar, this is a dangerous country and even a top athlete can be murdered there..... defence of property and personal protection are real issues, as this no doubt illustrates.
