A20 League

Zero idea of the provenance behind this league but it's cricket so :dunno

Six teams - Bombay, Rajkot, Goltay, Surat, Kerala, and Cara play each other once in the league phase, with the top four making it to the semi-finals.

Today's game was Bombay vs Goltay. Despite the best efforts of Goltay's Juned Hashim, his side could not defend their total of 124. It was tight though as Goltay took regular wickets and went into the final over needing 8 runs but with no batsmen left in the hutch. They managed it but a wide helped their endeavours.

Kerala are the league leaders with their solitary win. Their success is built around a strong bowling attack; their Hasil Ibrahimkutty is the leading wicket taker with 4-8 from his single game. Ameya Soman's score of 92 from Rajkot sees him at the top of the run-scoring table.

Both Surat and Cara went into this fixture without a win to their name – but Surat’s Mohammed Faisal ensured that they got their inaugural victory. His 57 ball 87 helped his team to a total of 161 and took him to the top of the run-scoring table. Cara lost wickets regularly but nearly made it. They needed 8 runs from the last over – however were down to the tail and could not make it.

Another steamroller style win for Kerala in whatever the hell this competition is.

They beat second from bottom team Surat by 5 wickets with 31 balls remaining today.

It was their bowlers who looked most impressive today with Mohammed Shahir's 4-10 standing out as Surat were limited to 131. Easy pickings for Kerala.

Shahir's performance sees him join 5 other players to have six runs at the top of the wicket taking tally - however his average of 5.50 is by far superior to any of the others. Rajkot's Ameya Soman scored an unbelievable 167 runs yesterday to catapult to the top of the table.

Top ranked team Bombay comfortably beat Kerala today. Despite an under powered batting performance from Bombay, the three wickets of Zahid Ali for just 21 runs saw Kerala out for 116 in the 18th over- well off the target of 153.

In the earlier game Goltay beat Rajkot to move into joint second place.

Zahi Ali is now the top wicket taker with 9 whilst Rajkot's Ameya Soman now has over double the amount of runs than the cricketer in second spot. His 519 runs in 5 innings will take some bettering.

Didn’t realise there was a second game – and what a corker for the tournament’s top scorer. I don’t know what the qualifying criteria for such things but Wikipedia say that the highest T20 score of all time – international or franchise – is Afghanistan’s 278-3 against Ireland. Rajkot got 318-1 against Surat with Ameya Soman getting his second score of 160+ in the tournament. Needless to say it was a drastic victory for Rajkot by __ runs.

The 30 year old is really making a name for himself in this tournament.

Cara won a consolation match this morning as they played out a dead rubber against Goltay who had already joined Bombay, Kerala and Rajkot in the semi-finals.

It was a strong bowling performance from a team who have lacked in all disciplines throughout the season. Raj Pandya got more wickets in his 2-16 today than he did in the whole of the tournament combined as he helped limit Goltay to a season low 120-6. They may managed to rattle those off in just 18 overs.

Shockingly Goltay won this competition convincingly - even more so when you consider that, unlike their fellow finalists Bombay, they had to play both their Semi-Final and Final on the same day.

It was Rajkot in the Semis that put up the biggest fight for Goltay. It went down to the final ball as Goltay chased the total of 173 - however Dawood Ejaz's opening salvo of 71 off 46 meant that Goltay could allow a few dot balls and still remain in sight.

The final was an absolute mauling of Bombay who were all out for 104 - a total Goltay only needed 13 overs to surpass.

Bombay's Zahi Ali finished top wicket taker with 13 whilst Rajkot's Ameya Soman stormed the run scoring league with 538 - averaging 89.66.
