Another batter's masterclass today with Sydney Sixer’s Alyssa Healy’s 94 registering as the third highest score of the tournament so far. She was instrumental in getting her team to 161. Perth has been in no sort of form to chase that down and today was no different. SydSix end the packed weekend of WBBL action in 3rd spot. MelRen are still the team to beat as they have won 5 in the last 6.

Beth Mooney scored the second highest score of the WBBL so far with 101 for Perth against MelRen this morning. She joins a list of just 6 players to have score 2+ WBBL centuries. 

It made for a fairly uninteresting exhibition as Perth led from the off and never looked back. Merengue were at 156 for their 20 - which would have been a decent score any other day.

Mooney's score sees her move into the highest run scorer position.

Katie Mack pulled off a bit of a blinder as Adelaide pulled off a tricky win against SydSix today. The total was 142 and Adelaide went for it from the off with almost all of their batters going at 100+ SR. Katie Mack carried her bat with a 67 off 55 to claim victory in the battle of the two midtable teams.

Perth’s Lilly Mills has had a good week with the ball with 6 wickets from 3 games. This takes her to the top of the wickets tally with 16 from 9 games.

Jess Jonassen was the star for Brisbane as they got SydSix out for just 91. They had a bit of a mare chasing it down but got there in 14 overs but lost 7 batsmen on the way. The win takes Jonassen to the tip of the wicket taking table. Brisbane are now comfortably second with MelRen just ahead of them.

Smriti Mandhana scored the highest score of the WBBL so far but still ended up on the losing side. Her 114 was the lions share of SydThun's total of 171 but they finished 4 runs away from MelRen's target. MelRen seem unstoppable ag the top of the table

Relative unknown Ruth Johnston pulled out a score of 63 as Hobart beat MelRen in a shocking upturn of the table today. The teenager got to her half century in just 35 balls and helped Hobart post an above average 161. Knowing they had to go big to chase it down, MelRen shot their load to early and were out for 109.

 

In the later game another lower ranked team beat their ‘superior’ opponent as SydThun got the better of Brisbane. A 99 run opening stand in a chase of 162 set Brisbane off on the right track with Georgia Redmayne proving especially impressive….however a string of single figure scores saw the Heat whimper to a humbling defeat which takes the Thunder up to 5th.

140odd didn't look like a lot for Perth, but it turned out to be plenty in the end. The Perth bowlers seem to have just bowled that bit better

Sydney Sixers have played three times in this year’s tournament, a match more than 4 teams and 2 matches more than 3 others – however that sense of fatigue may well be diminished by the fact they’ve won them all.

The data is, of course, skewed by the fact that they have played more games than anyone else but the Sixers women are also clean-sweeping all categories of success. Susie Bates has got the tournament’s highest score – 82* in yesterday’s game – and Elyse Perry is the tournament’s overall top scorer with 141…because of course she is.
In terms of bowling, two players have got fourfers so far with the Sixers’ Sophie Ecclestone being the most economical with 4-17 yesterday whilst Molly Brown has 7 wickets overall making her the leading wicket-taker.

Quite the impressive start.

Three fixtures have played out since the last update – all with something notable to share. First off Perth’s Taneale Peschel contributed 3 wickets in yesterday’s game. Her economical figures of 3-13 will probably be the most economical three-fer the competition will see and helped restrict Hobart to 109 – a total chased down in just 14 overs.

Georgia Redmayne impressed in this morning’s match with the highest score of the tournament so far. Her 98* came off 67 balls and contributed to Brisbane’s 180-1 against Melbourne Renegades. Brisbane now have the top two highest scores in the tournament at 179 & 180. This bumper haul of runs puts her atop the run-scoring table with 180.

Hobart’s second win of the tournament in the evening game was a most convincing one as they bowled Sydney Thunder out for a mere 95 – their first innings total of 145, therefore handing them a win by 49 tuns. The largest total so far in the tournament.

Perth’s win puts them I second place with 2 wins from 2 whilst Hobart are now in second with 2 wins and a loss. Sydney Thunder are in dire straits with three successive losses after their humbling by Hobart today.

The last time we touched base with the WBBL was after its largest margin of victory by runs; today was the second largest as Adelaide pulled off a surprise win against top of the table Brisbane. Brisbane were all out for 109 chasing Adelaide’s 140. It marks a real turnaround in Adelaide’s form. They lost both of their opening games but have now won three on the bounce.

The tournament didn’t have any fivefers before game 14 and has now got 2 in 3 games. Amanda-Jade Wellington’s 3.5-0-8-5’s will be hard to beat as Adelaide humiliated Melbourn Renegades on Monday – getting them all out for 101. Jess Jonassen is now the tournament’s highest wicket taker with 10 @ 15.7.

Tammy Beaumont stood out for the English contingent in another shock last week when 6th placed Sydney Thunder beat second place Perth. Tammy Beaumont got 77* - the third highest score of the tournament so far. Georgia Redmayne is still the tournament’s premier run scorer with 220 @ 44.

Another WBBL round up the day of a huge victory. This time it was hardly a shock as top of the table Sydney Sixers got the better of bottom of the table Melbourne Renegades, Sydney Sixers' total of 188 was largely built on Alyssa Healy's 78 from 54 balls and Melbourne never looked in the hunt. They eventually fell short by 37 runs - the third largest deficit in the tournament so far.



Brisbane's Georgia Redmayne is going through a lean spell at the moment having scored just 9 runs off the last two games - however she still leads out the run scorers. Her 225 runs is 22 better than anyone else.



Other notable achievements over the long weekend saw Sophie Day get the tournament's 6th best figures of 4-19 in the Melbourne derby on Thursday night. The Stars absolutely abominated the Renegades as Day contributed to the bottom placed team being all out for 91 in what is proving to be an abysmal season. Jess Jonassen's 3-fer in today's game sees her onto 13 wickets for the tournament and continue her reign of terror at the top of the wicket takers column.

Yet again, I have been provoked into doing a WBBL update by a huge victory.
Melbourne Renegades got their second victory out of 8 last time out and may have thought their season might have turned…however this was quickly put paid to by the fact that they were all out for 80 against 5th placed Hobart today. This was largely courtesy of a Molly Strano 4-16 haul. It took Hobart just 10.4 overs to haul in that minimal total.

Overall, Jess Jonassen keeps bagging three-fers for fun and leads the way in the wickets column with 17 at an average of 14.31 whilst Georgia Redmayne continues to be the tournament’s highest run scorer with 305.
One thing that has changed is the highest individual score of the season as Beth Mooney got 99* off 58 balls in a shock Peth victory over league leaders Sydney Sixers.

Unbelievably there are still 21 more fixtures left before we get to the knock outs.

For so so so long the WBBL has been quite stagnant on a lot of fronts – however it has been all change over the last week or so.

Perth’s Beth Mooney has knocked Georgia Redmayne off the top of the run scoring log courtesy of a mammoth haul of 165 runs in 48 hours. Another record that was toppled this week was the highest individual score of the tournament, with Alyssa Healy breaking the three figure mark with her 64 ball 107* in Sydney Sixers game against Perth – the same game where Mooney scored 75 runs herself.

On the same day as that batter friendly game in Melbourne, Sasha Mohoney got 4-15 in the Melbourne derby. This represents the 4th best bowling figures of the tournament to date. Overall Brisbane’s Nicola Hancock has bagged 11wickets in her last 4 games to supplant Jess Jonassen – who has slipped down to third place.

It is also worth noting that Melbourne Renegades have continued their absolutely abysmal season with a complete drubbing on Saturday. They were all out for 88 chasing 192-4. Another dark moment in their poor season – one of the worst I can remember in franchise cricket.
