Road Safety World Series

Such a strange competition ....but hits me right in the nostalgia.

The Indian Legends beat the West Indies Legends yesterday and Sri Lankan Legends beat the Australian Legends today.

The Sri Lankans really are the cream of the past 15 years ...whilst the Aussies look rather underbaked. The exception to this today was Nathan Reardon - a player very much stretching the definition of the word legend, but thriving today with 96 off 53. Despite this massive score from the ex-Hobart man, they still could not reach Sri Lanka's 162. This was not a bad yield for a player that scored just 4 runs in his entire international carer.

India play Sri Lanka on Tuesday.

I saw the SL team and I reckon SL would love to be able to call them up for the England series

This was already a very weird competition for many reasons...not least of all the name...but the fact that the first 4 games were held in March 2020 with the competition resuming yesterday also gives it another odd feel.

Australia have dropped out and been replaced by England and Bangladesh, with Bangladesh being humiliated by India yesterday.

Today saw Sri Lanka up against West Indies. After the Windies put on 157-4, Upul Tharanga got a 35 ball 53 to see Sri Lanka haul in that total with an over to spare.

It was Sri Lana's second win of three (separated by a year) and takes them to second spot. Bangladesh are 0 from 1.

In terms of individual success, India dominate due to having played the most out of anyone thus far. Virender Sehwag has 157 runs from 3 innings whilst Munaf Patel has 6 wickets.

For those of you that have Sky it is on Channel 714.

Exactly 6 years to the day since Tillakaratne Dilshan scored 6 fours in one over, he was back to his old tricks and looking as good as ever. He got 50 from 40 balls today after Sri Lanka limited South Africa to just 85. He got 7 fours across the whole innings this time though.

Sri Lanka are now joint top with India - but the home side have a game in hand. South Africa have won one and lost one and sit fourth.

Sehwag and Munaf still lead us out in terms of runs and wickets.

The guy is an objectionable egotistical pranny but Kevin Pietersen isn't having looking good in this tournament. He scored 75 off 37 balls to hand ENgland a comfortable win over India - who have been the comfortable winners of all the games they have played.

Might have a decent shot at winning this.

Sehwag only scored 6 today but still tops the run scoring table whilst Munaf got 2 wickets to take his lead on joint second placed Herath and Tilshan to 3

In case you were thinking of crossing the road without holding your grown-ups hand, the Road Safety World Series is back.

After a full round of fixtures India, Sri Lanka and West Indies beat South Africa, Australia and Bangladesh.

The biggest victory was that of West Indies today who got Bangladesh all out for 98 before winding the total in with 5 overs to spare.

Individually the highest run scorer has been Tillakaratne Dilshan who got 107 against Australia whilst his teammate Nuwan Kulasekera's 4-36 is the best bowler after one game.

Tomorrow New Zealand enter the tournament against South Africa whilst England make their bow on Tuesday.

Two big losses for the two teams making their debuts as South Africa beat New Zealand by 9 wickets yesterday and Sri Lanka beat England by 7 today.

Andrew Puttick's 51* was the difference for South Africa as they chased down New Zealand's target of 99.

Despite only scoring 15 today for Sri Lanka, Tillakaratne Dilshan is still the principal run scorer with 122. The main man for the Sri Lankans today was Sanath Jayasuriya. The 53 year old's extraordinary figures of 4-2-3-4 held England to a mere 78 runs. Sanath now has 4 wickets but still trails Nuwan Kulasekera's 6 wickets.

India play West Indies tomorrow.

Took my eyes off the prize a bit with this one but India ran out winners in the final against Sri Lanka yesterday and it was their players that dominated throughout the series also.

Naman Ojha scored the highest individual score of the tournament with 108* in the final and moved into first place in terms of most runs scored overall with 266 across his 6 games. Whilst India excelled with the bat it was the Sri Lankan bowlers who most caught the eye. By some distance the most effective bowler was Nuwan Kulasekara whose 13 wickets was 6 more than anyone else. On top of this, only four bowlers scored more than 3 wickets in an innings and two of them were Sri Lankans. One was Kulasekara and the other was Sanath Jayasuriya whose figures of 4-2-3-4 were the best in the tournament.
